The Grange & Kooyonga Senior Open Amateur is an Australian Senior ranking event. Round one of the event is played at The Grange Golf Club and round two is played at Kooyonga Golf Club. This event is open to male and female amateurs aged 55 years or older. Many prizes are awarded each year, however the main prizes are awarded to the best aggregate gross scores and best aggregate nett scores in the senior & super senior divisions.
This year’s event was played in fantastic conditions and was tightly contested across all categories. 2023 also saw one of the largest fields in event history with 111 players taking part.
Following an exceptional round at Grange on Thursday, including a hole in one on the 15th (East Course), Andrew Brown found himself in a tie for the win with Warwick Oxenford.
Warwick’s consistency over the two days with 79 & 74 (153) Gross, equalled Andrew’s score of 71 & 82 (153).
The two were set to take part in a play-off, however, tight timeframes for connecting flights didn’t allow time.
With Warwick conceding on this basis, Andrew took home the perpetual trophy.
Douglas Cullam’s rounds of 75 81 (156) were enough to take out the Super Senior (65+) combined gross category, over Deane Harris 81 82 (163).
The Women’s category was largely dominated by Cath Stolz, who ran away with the perpetual trophy in the Women’s category with a combined gross score of 76 82 (158).
Cath also won the combined net category, best gross score on day one, best nett score on day 1 and best gross score on day 2.
Runner up for the women’s combined gross was Jill Hodge with consistent rounds of 80 85 (165), while June Tickell was the overall nett runner up with rounds of 76 73 (149).
